Questions parents ask

Do you take my child's insurance?

Call with the plan name on your child's card and we tell you before you book. Louisiana Medicaid and LaCHIP are listed on the fees page, with the plans through a job we work with.

What if my child has no insurance?

You pay for the visit, and we give you a written estimate for every step before any treatment.

Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?

Ask us and we answer yes or no for your child's plan. Medicaid and CHIP rules are set by the state, and our status for each is on the fees page.

Will it hurt?

Most children feel pressure and sometimes a pinch. We show each tool first, use numbing where it is needed and stop when you or your child ask.

How often does my child need X-rays and a cleaning?

Dr. Harrell decides from your child's age and history of cavities. For many children it is a cleaning twice a year, and X-rays less often.

What is a sealant?

A thin coating painted on the chewing surface of a back tooth. It helps protect the grooves, and it doesn't take the place of brushing.

Do you see children, and from what age?

Yes, only children, from their first tooth through the teen years. The practice sets the ages.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Swelling that spreads, trouble breathing or swallowing and bleeding that won't stop need an emergency room or 911. A knocked-out tooth needs a call to us right away.

Do you use sedation?

No. This office uses numbing only. If a child needs more than that, Dr. Harrell tells you who to see.

Can I get a written estimate before treatment?

Yes. Ask when you book or at the visit, and we put each step and its fee in writing first.

Do you speak Spanish?

Silvia Dorantes at the front desk does. Dr. Harrell and Jenny Seng speak English.

How do I cancel or change a visit?

Call or text the office. Please tell us as early as you can so another child can have the time.

Still have a question?

Call and Silvia Dorantes will answer, or send a request and she will call you back.
